Any kind of party is a huge segment of your holiday. Depending on where you go for a vacation, you can seek very different kinds of parties. Sometimes it is a festival, sometimes a discotheque, a live concert, a beach party and many other types of social life. You simply want to entertain and let your worries away for a couple of hours. Still, many people might have the wrong approach when it comes to holiday parties.
Why do I say so?
Some people do not have realistic expectations about this. Not every destination offers the same kind of nightlife and entertainment. It does not make much sense to always seek for the same kind of party. It should be a lot more about the destination in particular.
Do not insist on massive night clubs if you go to a lovely countryside destination. Find some traditional event which will be the best way to come to know the destination. Why? Because you chose your holiday destination and now you must give it a try. You must let your destination give it’s best.
I believe you are already getting to my point. Each destination is so authentic and has its own things to do. Do not despair if your destination does not have a fancy night club. Find some local gathering place instead!
Krk has hidden parties
People react to the nightlife of island Krk differently. Some like it, but some say it is not a real party place. Everyone is right. The Island of Krk is not the destination that comes to my mind first if we talk about massive clubs and crazy parties on Adriatic. But, many think there is nothing more than restaurants, bars and a couple of clubs. There is. The Island of Krk offers a lot of public events. You can find so many fiestas all around the island. In every town and village.
What is it about?
Fiesta (locals say “fešta”) is a public event hosted by the local village or town. They celebrate for religious or some other traditional reasons. They often celebrate their patron saint or they organize fisher’s night (locals say “ribarska večer”). Patron saint is a saint who is the protector of the village by the religion. Fisher’s nights are just made by people and that is when locals gather to celebrate their day with music, food and drinks. In each town or village it happens on the same date every year. Fiestas are considered special and amazing because they gather all generations. You can see little children playing with baloons and toys and eating popcorn, youth singing and dancing on the live concert and lots of middle aged or older people sitting, talking about the good old times and enjoying traditional food and drinks. All generations united.

There are more fiestas and events, that is for sure. This list shows just some of them. However, you need to begin somewhere.
Remember when I told you that your stomach deserves an adventure too?
There is plenty of delicious and simple food made on fiestas. If you are a meat lover, try čevapćići - minced meat shaped into nice sticks and lovely seasoned. If possible, order "čevapčići with lepinja" - a traditional kind of bread that goes well with it. If you are more fond of fish, go for "pržene ribice" which literally means fried little fish. The most common are sprats "(papaline)", smelts ("girice") and sardines ("sardine").
One important note so you don’t get thirsty. The most popular drinks on fiestas of Krk are: gemišt, bevanda, bambus, pivo and rakija. Gemišt is a mixture of white wine and sparkling water (I do recommend it!). Bevanda is a mixture of wine and plain water (I do recommend it!). This term is mostly used for a mixture of red wine and plain water, but people also mix white wine and plain water and use this term for that drink too. Bambus is a mixture of red wine and Coca Cola (I do not recommend it!). Pivo is a beer. Rakija is a traditional Croatian liqueur - also called schnapps. You can find many different flavors. If you want more sweet flavors, then go for medica (honey schnapps) or borovnička (blueberry schnapps). If you are a tough guy (or a brave girl), go for šljivovica (plum schnapps) or travarica (schnapps made of various plants).
Now you know everything! Find some upcoming fiesta and have fun!
